Summer and Fall Events – 2010

After a lot of work during the summer, we are excited to announce our upcoming summer and fall events!

This season’s work is part of the outdoor sculpture show FIGMENT on Governors Island and is featured in Pallet City by Katherine Gressel and Jeremy Reed. “Looking Glass,” a collection of unique photographic perspectives framed in salvaged paned windows, runs from August 8, 2010 to September 18, 2010. Governors Island is open Fridays-Sundays so take a trip out there with your family and friends to check out our newest installation. We will hold an opening reception on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2pm at our exhibit so see you there!

Crosby Street Gallery will also participate in the annual Governors Island Arts Fair that runs during the weekends in September 2010. We will have a small gallery space with prints available for purchase! Stop by in September for some new and affordable art for your walls.

Future exhibitions include a three-month presentation of visual and performing arts in New Haven, CT as part of the Project Storefronts economic development effort, as well as a summer arts festival on a busy traffic island in New York City scheduled for 2011. Crosby Street Gallery’s inaugural show was held in December 2009 in a converted loading dock in Downtown Brooklyn as part of the Your Art Here initiative to enliven formerly unused spaces.

Support the Red Cross – Taking Donations at our Reception

Hello everyone,

If you are attending the gallery reception, we have an important message for you.  In the wake of the recent earthquake in Haiti, donations are urgently needed for support organizations.  We will be accepting donations for Red Cross at our event and will be sending one large donation in the name of our company.  Additionally, we will donate 5% of the proceeds of any art sold at the show directly to the Red Cross.

If you are not able to make it to the reception, please support the disaster relief efforts through online websites such as:

Please join us as we help those who have suffered through this great tragedy.

Sincerely,

Urban>Nature’s Closing Reception – Jan. 15th from 6:30 PM until Midnight

I hope everyone had a great holiday!  We are getting ready to close up the Urban>Nature exhibit at Loading Dock in Brooklyn.  As our end date draws near, we wanted to invite everyone to our closing reception on Friday, Jan. 15th from 6:30 PM to Midnight.  Loading Dock is located at 170 Tillary St. in Brooklyn and will be open for dinner until 10:00 PM on the night of the reception.  Join us for their great food and our free wine!

The photos from the Opening Reception by Jakop Nazaretyan are almost ready and will be posted on Monday of this week.  Thank you to everyone who agreed to model for the photo shoot.  When you come to the Closing Reception, remember to fill out a comment card and leave us your email address.  We’ll be drawing a winner for a free print from the show.

In other news, Loading Dock and our show keep getting mentioned on the web.  Here are a few new sites that have pictures of the gallery and restaurant:

  • Cultivated
  • Naver (couldn’t translate the site, but they have good pictures – if you can, let us know what they are saying)

We will be taking down the gallery show on Jan. 17th, so this will be your last chance to see it in person.  All of the art will be available for purchase (except the pieces that have already been sold).  We look forward to seeing you there!

Crosby Street Gallery’s First Popup Show is Up!

Late on Monday night, Jakop and I finished hanging the last photos in our first show for the Tuesday morning opening of Loading Dock.  In took three days – Julie and I did the layout on Saturday, I hung two walls and set up all the prints with the help of the guys on Sunday, and Jakop and I tackled the concrete wall and finished the initial stage of the show on Monday.  So far, we’ve got great comments on the show (and Loading Dock has received great reviews of their food).

Here are a few shots taken around 11:00 PM on Monday:

Entry way from across the gallery

Jakop took this shot of the entryway after we completed hanging the art and added the Loading Dock skull to the wall.

The exhibit finishes with natural landscapes on the final wall. The Lures resin sculpture will go into the framework of the pipe in time for our public opening on Friday, Dec. 11.

Crosby Street Gallery popup, cleaning up

I'm starting the cleanup of the space so that Owen can get some sleep before his cafe opens on Tuesday morning.

We were too busy during most of the day to take any pictures, so these are all from the end of the setup.  We’ll post pictures from our openings and events as December and January progress.  Remember – Opening Reception – Friday, Dec. 11th, 2009 at 7:00 PM!  Loading Dock will be providing refreshments.  Come, mingle, and enjoy the art.
